Hilbre Island

I have had the enjoyable task of entertaining my kids for the past 2 weeks whilst my partner has worked nights. Being off school seems to cost an arm and a leg, so finding ‘cheap’ entertainment is always a bonus. Last week we walked out into the Dee estuary (whilst the tide was out) and had a look at Hilbre Island. Quite an interesting place and plenty of classic examples of coastal erosion features. Here are a few photos from our walk, which proved to be quite challenging for my 5 year old daughter when walking into a head wind! A quick search in Google brings up plenty of issues based around the Dee estuary. Plans to place a barrage across the estuary have been discussed on many occasions. Would the benefits of a renewable source of energy outweigh the consequences to this fragile environment? The Dee Estuary Conservation Group oppose any such development. Potential for some great issues based Geography with pupils?
